5 Tips for Intentional Living

  1. Morning Routine

Each day we wake up is a gift and an opportunity to start our day on the right note. We all have something on our mind that we’d like to do each morning or each day. What can you implement in your morning routine to start your day on the right track?

Here is what I do.

Devotional time. This is time I spend reading The Bible, in worship and in prayer. Spending time with God fills my soul and allows my heart, mind, and spirit to be in the right state for the day set ahead.

Workout. Getting my body moving helps in so many ways. From getting my metabolism running, clearing my sinuses (allergies anyone!), and overtime leading to gains that make me happy (we all wanna look good).

Coffee. I admit, I love coffee. Sometimes a little too much, but I try to limit it. This is usually incorporated with my bible reading time. Having a nice iced coffee on the side is a refreshing feeling.

Ideas for you:

  • Devotion time/Bible Reading
  • Workout
  • Nice morning beverage (coffee, tea)
  • Morning Walk
  • Journaling
  • Daily Affirmations
  • Making Bed
  • Take a shower
  1. Express Gratitude

There is so much going on in our lives. Each season can look different. Sometimes we get so fixated on what is not going right that we focus more on the negative. Naturally, this can be me. If you’re like me, we have to be intentional to see the good and express gratitude.

Each day, I give thanks to God. From the simplest things to the biggest. I do not want to let the “small things” I am thankful for slip by. Expressing gratitude uplifts your spirit, helps you to have the right perspective, and can help you be more joyful.

Ideas for you:

  • Thank God in prayer
  • Having a gratitude journal
  • Have a gratitude jar
  • Have a gratitude notes page on phone
  • Verbally say your grateful for
  1. Connect with Someone

We are made to relate and to be in community. Whether you’re introverted or extroverted, we all need this (just some more than others haha).

Ideas for you:

  • Schedule a meetup with someone once a week or every other week. This can be a one-on-one meetup or a group get-together
  • Text or call someone new each week. Most people appreciate a check-in text/call. This is a great way to stay in touch with those we are not in close proximity with.
  1. Read

Reading is one of the best ways to grow, learn, and improve your skills. There are SO many books out there, and I’m confident you can find one that speaks to you. What type of novels are you interested in?

I know reading is not for everyone. So instead, listen! Whether that be an audiobook, a podcast, or a talk show that you enjoy.

Ideas for you:

  • Read before bed (relaxes the mind and body)
  • Set a reading schedule (30 minutes each day. 1 book a month)
  • Listen to audiobook (while driving, walking, doing chores, etc.)
  1. Journal

The days can sometimes go by so quickly. It may feel like we never have a moment to hear and process our own thoughts. This is where journaling is beneficial. How are you really feeling? What are matters that are on your heart and mind worth processing? Take your thoughts and write them down on paper.

If journaling is not for you, find someone to talk to. Someone you can verbally process with. A trusted friend or family member. A leader. A therapist or counselor.

Ideas for you:

  • Journal (notebook, word doc, notes app on phone)
  • Talk to someone
  • (Audio Journal) Record yourself talking out loud

BONUS TIP!!

  1. Pause

What do I mean by this? Take moments to be still and quiet. Whether that’s closing your eyes and breathing for a minute. Getting off of technology to go on a quick walk. Or taking a moment from your busy work day to implement a journal session. These moments of pausing will help us to refocus and recenter ourselves.

Ideas for you:

  • Set a timer, close your eyes, and just breathe
  • Go for a walk. Leave your phone behind and engage with nature
