Praying for your spouse is so important. To pray that they continue to grow into the godly person God has made them to be. The Bible shows us through different verses, what a godly husband entails.
There are so many Bible verses you can find to pray over your spouse. These verses don’t have to say “husband” or “spouse”. You will see verses that relate to the characteristics of a godly individual, which also applies to a godly husband. Here are some Bible verses I have found that are great to pray over your husband.
1 Corinthians 13:14-15
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Guided Prayer:
Lord, help my husband to be a man who is full of patience and kindness. May he be content in the ways he needs to. Help to remove pride from him and instead, may he be a man who is humble. A man who serves others who is full of peace, and who forgives others.
Ephesians 5:25-26
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
Guided Prayer:
Lord, may my husband love me the way you have called him to. Just as you make the church holy and clean, I pray that my husband loves me in such a way that it helps me to grow in holiness.
Titus 2:6-8
Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
Guided Prayer:
Lord, may my husband be like this. A man with self-control. May he always do what is right – having integrity, sound speech, and seriousness. May he be a man of example.
1 Timothy 3:2-4
… to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.
Read all of 1 Timothy 3! As you read, you will see that these verses are speaking of what a man in leadership is to entail. I still see this to be beneficial to pray over your husband because he is the head of your home. And even if he is not in a “leadership” position, these are still the heart of a man who has a right heart before The Lord and is an example.
Guided Prayer:
Lord, may my husband be like this. A man who is faithful, has self-control, is respectful and hospitable. A man who is gentle in all he does. Choosing to bring unity instead of division. Who views money the right way. May he care for our first ministry, our home, and our family, leading us well.
