Wedding Budget – Saving Tips

Here are some of my tips on how to save when it comes to your wedding. Keep reading for more!

My Story:

My engagement was 5 months. To most, this is not long, but for us, it was just right. With a 5 month engagement, we had a lesser amount of time to save up and spend for our wedding day. Honestly, we went into our engagement not knowing if we’d get married in a court or have a traditional wedding. And if we did, how we would be able to pay for it.

As Christians, we trusted God to provide. And boy did He. Some of the ways that we were able to save will be shared here in this blog. I want to encourage you, that you can still have your wedding and stick to your budget!

Saving Tips:

Set Your Budget

How much can y’all afford to spend on your big day? Knowing  your budget will help you stick to it as you continue to plan and spend.

Connections

Who are some people you know who may be able to offer a service you need for your big day at a lower cost? Photographer, videographer, makeup artist, crafter? If someone is new to this field and/or trying to build their clientele, they may offer you an unmatched price. Just make sure you have some examples of their work to ensure it’ll be exactly what you want.

Borrow Items/Buy Gently Used

Most of the items for your wedding and wedding festivities will probably be used only once. So what can be borrowed or purchased gently to help save some money? Decor for the wedding day? Outfit pieces for a bachelorette or bridal shower? Maybe even some items in your own home that can be used for certain festivities or the big day. You can find many gently used items through Facebook Marketplace and a thrift store.

One Venue

What are some locations that can host both your ceremony and reception? Having your wedding in one location can save you a lot. As well as making travel arrangements simpler. A lot of churches and event centers have multiple rooms that can be used for the ceremony and reception.

Negotiables & Non Negotiables

What are some things that matter to you, and what are some things that do not matter as much? Knowing the difference will help you determine what is worth paying the full price and what is not. One non-negotiable may be your makeup artist because you want your makeup done just right by your chosen artist. A negotiable may be the quality of your reception dining napkins of satin versus cloth.

EXTRA TIPS:

Resell Reusable Items

Whatever you purchase for your wedding day, make sure it has resale value. Something gently used that another person may be willing to purchase for their big day. Some items that resell well are vases, decor flowers, wedding signs, tablecloths and so much more.

Credit Cards for Cashback

This tip came from my husband – this was more his thing. Most credit cards reward you with cashback and points that can be used for other expenses down the line. If you can keep all your purchases on one or two cards that will reward you back, you’ll be surprised by what you receive. With my husband’s credit card, we were able to rack up enough rewards to cover the cost of our honeymoon place tickets.
